Introduction
The Andhra Pradesh Medical Council (APMC) is a statutory regulatory body established under the Andhra Pradesh Medical Practitioners Registration Act, 1968 to oversee and regulate the practice of modern scientific medicine (allopathy) in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The Council is a corporate body constituted by the Government of Andhra Pradesh to ensure the registration, professional conduct, and ethical standards of medical practitioners practicing modern medicine across the state.
APMC’s mandate includes maintaining a register of qualified medical practitioners, granting and renewing registrations, and ensuring compliance with legal and ethical norms for doctors. The council functions as an autonomous authority, operating within the framework of both state legislation and national medical regulation standards set by the National Medical Commission (NMC).
The Council comprises elected and nominated members, including representatives from registered medical practitioners, the State Government, and key health administration officials. It is headed by a Chairman elected from among its members and supported by a Registrar responsible for administrative functions and maintaining the official register of medical practitioners.
Key Functions of APMC
Registration and renewal of registration of medical practitioners in Andhra Pradesh.
Maintaining and publishing the State Medical Register of qualified doctors.
Regulating the professional conduct, ethics, and discipline of registered doctors.
Taking disciplinary action in cases of professional misconduct or ethical violations.
Ensuring compliance with state and national medical laws and standards.
Courses and Practitioners Regulated by APMC
APMC regulates practitioners of modern scientific medicine (allopathy), including those holding qualifications such as:
MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery)
Postgraduate Medical Degrees and Diplomas (MD / MS / DNB)
Super‑Specialty Medical Degrees (DM / MCh)
APMC does not regulate nursing, dental, physiotherapy, or traditional / AYUSH professions; these fall under separate statutory councils.
National Affiliation and Recognition
APMC operates in alignment with national medical norms and under the regulatory framework of the National Medical Commission (NMC), which has superseded the earlier Medical Council of India (MCI). This ensures that medical education, registration requirements, and professional practice standards in Andhra Pradesh are consistent with nationwide regulations.

Entrance
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) is a national-level entrance examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to MBBS and BDS courses across India, including medical colleges in Andhra Pradesh.
NEET-UG is mandatory for all students seeking admission to undergraduate medical courses in government and private medical colleges in Andhra Pradesh. Admission to MBBS seats in the state is strictly based on NEET-UG scores and the state counselling process conducted by Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences.
About the National Testing Agency (NTA)
The National Testing Agency (NTA) is a government body established in 2017 under the Ministry of Education (MoE) to conduct major national-level entrance examinations in India. NTA ensures a transparent, efficient, and standardized testing system for students across the country.
Role of NTA in Medical Admissions:
Conducts the NEET-UG, mandatory for admission to MBBS, BDS, and other undergraduate medical courses.
NEET-UG scores are used for admission to government, private, and management quota MBBS seats in Andhra Pradesh.
Note: NEET-PG is conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE), not NTA.

Category-wise NEET Cutoff:
General (Unreserved) Category:
Percentile required: 50th percentile
Approximate marks range: 686–144
Economically Weaker Section (EWS):
Percentile required: 50th percentile
Approximate marks range: 686–144
EWS follows the same cutoff as the General category
Other Backward Classes (OBC‑NCL):
Percentile required: 40th percentile
Approximate marks range: 143–113
Scheduled Caste (SC) / Scheduled Tribe (ST):
Percentile required: 40th percentile

Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD):
General-PwBD: 45th percentile (≈143–127 marks)

Important Notes:
These cutoffs are for qualifying NEET UG 2024–25 and participating in counselling — not final admission cutoffs for specific colleges, which may be significantly higher.
Andhra Pradesh colleges use state quota, All India Quota (AIQ) ranks, reservation policies, and seat matrix to determine actual admission cutoffs beyond the minimum qualifying marks.
