Introduction
The Uttar Pradesh Medical Council (UPMC) is a statutory body established under the Uttar Pradesh Medical Council Act to regulate the practice of modern medicine and maintain professional standards for medical practitioners across the state of Uttar Pradesh. The council functions as an autonomous authority under the Government of Uttar Pradesh.
UPMC is responsible for the registration and professional conduct of doctors practicing modern medicine in the state. The council ensures that medical practitioners meet the required educational qualifications and adhere to ethical and legal standards.
The council is headed by a President elected from among its members and includes elected and nominated representatives from the state government, medical universities, and registered medical practitioners.
Key Functions of UPMC
Registration and renewal of registration of medical practitioners
Maintenance of the State Medical Register
Regulation of professional conduct, ethics, and discipline of doctors
Taking disciplinary action in cases of professional misconduct
Ensuring compliance with medical laws and standards in Uttar Pradesh
Courses Regulated by UPMC
UPMC regulates qualifications in modern medicine (Allopathy) for:
MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery)
Postgraduate Medical Degrees and Diplomas (MD / MS / DNB)
Super‑Specialty Medical Courses (DM / MCh)
Note: UPMC regulates only modern medicine. Courses such as nursing, dental, physiotherapy, and AYUSH are governed by separate statutory councils.
National Affiliation and Recognition
The Uttar Pradesh Medical Council operates in alignment with national medical regulations and works under the framework of the National Medical Commission (NMC), which replaced the Medical Council of India (MCI). Entrance
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) is a national-level entrance examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to MBBS and BDS courses across India, including medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh.
NEET-UG is mandatory for all students seeking admission to undergraduate medical courses in both government and private medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh. Admission to MBBS seats in the state is strictly based on NEET-UG score and the Uttar Pradesh state counselling process.
About National Testing Agency (NTA)
The National Testing Agency (NTA) is a government body established in 2017 under the Ministry of Education (MoE) to conduct major national-level entrance examinations in India. NTA ensures a transparent, efficient, and standardized testing system for students across the country.

Conducts NEET-UG, mandatory for admission to MBBS, BDS, and other undergraduate medical courses.
NEET-UG scores are used for admission to government, private, and management quota MBBS seats in Uttar Pradesh.
Note: NEET-PG is conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE), not NTA.

Cutoff
What the NEET cutoff means
The qualifying cutoff percentile is the minimum percentile you must achieve in NEET‑UG to be eligible for MBBS or BDS admissions and to participate in state counselling in Uttar Pradesh. Meeting this cutoff does not guarantee admission, as actual college cutoffs depend on competition, category, and seat availability.
Qualifying Percentiles and Approximate Marks
For the General (Unreserved) category, the required percentile is 50th, with approximate marks ranging from 686 to 144.
The Economically Weaker Section (EWS) follows the same cutoff as the General category — 50th percentile, approximately 686–144 marks.
For Other Backward Classes (OBC‑NCL), the required percentile is 40th, with marks roughly between 143 and 113.
For Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates, the required percentile is also 40th, with similar marks in the 143–113 range.
Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) have slightly different requirements:
General‑PwBD: 45th percentile (~143–127 marks)
OBC/SC/ST‑PwBD: 40th percentile (~126–113 marks)
Important Notes
These percentiles and marks represent the minimum qualifying criteria for NEET‑UG 2024–25. They do not reflect the actual scores needed for admission to MBBS or BDS colleges in Uttar Pradesh, which are typically higher.
The final admission cutoffs depend on state quota, All-India quota ranks, reservation, and seat matrix for each college.
NEET‑UG qualification is mandatory for all government, private, and management quota seats in Uttar Pradesh.
The cutoffs are determined by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and are consistent nationwide, applied during UP state counselling.
