NEET 2026 West Bengal MBBS Cutoff Guide
You got your NEET 2026 result. The first thing every West Bengal student does is a frantic search: 'What rank do I need for Medical College Kolkata?' or 'Can I get CNMC with 590 marks?' or 'What is the OBC-A cutoff for RG Kar?' The internet gives you five different answers — all from different years, none clearly labelled.
This guide ends that confusion. We have compiled three years of official WBMCC data (2022–2025), mapped it college by college and category by category, and built the most complete West Bengal NEET 2026 cutoff prediction available anywhere — covering state quota government colleges, private college state quota, NRI quota (all 207 seats), and management quota.
Whether you are a UR student aiming for Medical College Kolkata, an OBC-A candidate targeting Burdwan, an SC student analysing district college chances, or an NRI family looking at private college options in West Bengal — this guide has your answer.

Understanding West Bengal's MBBS Seat Quota System
Before any cutoff number makes sense, you need to understand how West Bengal's MBBS seats are distributed. Two bodies manage this: WBMCC (West Bengal Medical Counselling Committee) manages state-level admissions; MCC (Medical Counselling Committee) manages the 15% All India Quota nationally.
Quota Type | % of Seats | Who Can Apply | Managed By | Cutoff Level |
AIQ (All India Quota) | 15% of govt college seats | Students from ANY state in India | MCC (mcc.nic.in) | Highest — national competition |
State Quota | 85% of govt college seats | WB domicile students only | WBMCC (wbmcc.nic.in) | Lower — WB competition only |
Private — State Quota | 50% of private college seats | WB domicile students | WBMCC | Lower than govt SQ |
Private — Management Quota (MQ) | 35% of private college seats | All Indian students (no domicile) | WBMCC (regulated) | Just qualifying NEET marks |
Private — NRI Quota | 15% of private college seats | NRI / OCI / PIO candidates only | WBMCC (regulated) | Just qualifying NEET marks |
⚠️ WEST BENGAL'S OBC-A / OBC-B SPLIT — A CRITICAL DISTINCTION UNIQUE TO THIS STATE
West Bengal divides its OBC reservation into OBC-A and OBC-B — two separate sub-categories with separate community lists, separate merit lists, separate reserved seats, and different closing ranks at every college.
At Medical College Kolkata in 2025: OBC-A closed at AIR 11,217 while OBC-B closed at AIR 10,472. This difference matters enormously for your planning.
Check your WB caste certificate carefully — it will specify OBC-A or OBC-B explicitly.
Using the wrong sub-category during WBMCC registration causes allotment cancellation.
This OBC split does not exist in AIQ counselling — there, OBC is a single national category.
The counselling fee structure: ₹2,000 for UR/EWS candidates and ₹1,500 for SC/ST/OBC/PwD candidates — non-refundable. WBMCC conducts four rounds: Round 1, Round 2, Mop-Up Round, and Stray Vacancy Round. Stray vacancy requires in-person document verification — not joining after allotment leads to debarment from WB counselling.
Safe Score Quick Reference — NEET 2026 WB (All Categories)
This is your cheat sheet. Find your target and your category — the marks shown give you a high-probability chance at that level of admission. These are not guarantees; they reflect the observed range from 2023–2025 WBMCC data.

✅ HOW TO READ THIS TABLE
These marks are safe scores — meaning students with these marks had a high probability of getting that type of seat in at least 2 of the last 3 years.
The actual closing in 2026 may shift by ±10–20 marks depending on NEET difficulty.
Always apply to BOTH your preferred colleges AND safe options in the same WBMCC session.
Missing a safe option while holding out for a preferred college is one of the most common counselling mistakes in WB.
For government seats: apply to ALL government colleges in your range, not just the top ones.
The ordering matters — fill more preferred colleges first, then safe fallbacks.
Government Medical Colleges — State Quota (85%) Closing Ranks 2022–2025
These are the most fought-over MBBS seats in West Bengal — extremely low annual fees (₹25,000–50,000/year) combined with strong academic reputation make every government seat intensely competitive. The data below covers WBMCC state quota (85%) final round closing ranks.

*2022 and 2023 data are derived from WBMCC preference order documents and historical trend sources. 2024 Round 1 data is from official WBMCC allotment published at wbmcc.nic.in. 2025 data from MBBSCouncil and v4edu predictor verified against WBMCC 2025 final data. Marks are approximate equivalents based on NTA score-to-rank conversion patterns.
ℹ️ AIQ (15% ALL INDIA QUOTA) — HIGHER CUTOFFS THAN STATE QUOTA
The 15% AIQ seats in the same colleges have higher closing ranks — national competition is stiffer.
For MCK, AIQ UR closing has historically been AIR 2,000–4,000 vs the state quota 5,684–6,227.
AIQ is managed by MCC (mcc.nic.in).
WB domicile students can apply to BOTH AIQ AND state quota simultaneously — maximising their options.
If you get an AIQ seat at MCK but prefer state quota for any reason, you can choose.
Always register for MCC counselling in addition to WBMCC.
EWS Category — Government Colleges State Quotav
EWS (Economically Weaker Section) reservation requires an annual family income below ₹8 lakh and a valid WB EWS certificate. EWS candidates compete in a separate merit list with separate reserved seats. Closing AIRs are typically 2–4x the UR closing (meaning EWS students need lower absolute marks for the same college).

OBC-A and OBC-B Category — Government Colleges (State Quota)
🔴 OBC-A vs OBC-B — DO NOT CONFUSE THESE
These are completely separate categories in West Bengal with different community lists, different reserved seats, and different closing ranks.
OBC-A includes communities listed under Annexure I of WB OBC notification; OBC-B includes communities in Annexure II.
Your WB caste certificate will explicitly state OBC-A or OBC-B.
In 2025 at Medical College Kolkata: OBC-A closed at AIR 11,217; OBC-B closed at AIR 10,472.
Different categories, different merit lists, different allotment.
Entering wrong sub-category in WBMCC registration = allotment cancellation.

✅ SC CANDIDATE STRATEGY
SC candidates targeting top Kolkata colleges (MCK, IPGMER, NRS) need 550+ marks.
For any district government college, 450–500 is generally sufficient based on 2024–2025 patterns.
SC candidates should also register for MCC counselling — AIQ SC cutoffs are typically lower than state quota SC cutoffs at WB colleges because there are fewer SC applicants nationally at the same WB colleges.
This is a lesser-known advantage.
ST Category — Government Colleges State Quota
ST is the most accessible government college category in WB — a very small pool of ST candidates means seats often go to the mop-up and stray vacancy rounds. The 2025 overall WB ST closing rank was approximately AIR 11,73,585 — meaning students with even very low NEET scores (just above qualifying) can access government seats.
College | 2024 ST Closing AIR | 2025 ST Closing AIR (est.) | Remarks |
Medical College Kolkata | ~1,23,394 (R1 — only 1 seat) | ~1,00,000–1,50,000 | Very few seats; often fills only in mop-up |
IPGMER / NRS / RG Kar | ~2,00,000–4,00,000 | ~2,50,000–5,00,000 | Small ST pool — seats often available late |

All India Quota (AIQ) — 15% Seats in WB Government Colleges
The 15% AIQ seats in WB government colleges are filled through MCC counselling — open to students from all states. For WB students, AIQ is an additional pathway on top of the 85% state quota. For non-WB students, AIQ is the only way to access WB government college seats.

ℹ️ AIQ STRATEGY FOR WB STUDENTS
If you are a WB domicile student with a strong NEET score (600+), always register for MCC in addition to WBMCC.
In some years, AIQ seats at district colleges go at LOWER closing ranks than state quota in those same colleges — because fewer students choose AIQ for non-Kolkata colleges.
The AIQ is also the route to WB seats for students from Bihar, Jharkhand, UP, and other states who want to study in Kolkata — competition for AIQ in top Kolkata colleges is fierce (national level).
Private Medical Colleges — State Quota (50%) Cutoffs 2023–2025
West Bengal has 8 private medical colleges with approximately 1,500 total MBBS seats. The 50% State Quota seats in private colleges are filled through WBMCC counselling — WB domicile students only. Cutoffs are significantly lower than government colleges.
# | College & Location | MBBS Seats | SQ UR Closing AIR 2024 (est.) | SQ UR Closing AIR 2025 (est.) | ~Marks Required | Annual SQ Fee (approx.) |
1 | KPC Medical College & Hospital — Jadavpur, Kolkata | 150 | ~1,00,000–1,15,000 | ~1,05,000 | ~510–525 | ₹10–12 lakh/year |
2 | IQ City Medical College — Durgapur | 150 | ~1,30,000–1,50,000 | ~1,38,000 | ~495–512 | ₹11–14 lakh/year |

8 | College of Medicine & JNM Hospital Nadia (Private) — Nadia | 150 | ~4,00,000+ | ~3,80,000+ | ~425–444 | ₹8–11 lakh/year |
⚠️ PRIVATE COLLEGE STATE QUOTA — THE COMPETITION IS HIGHER THAN IT LOOKS
All WB domicile NEET-qualified students compete for private college state quota seats.
The 50% SQ pool in private colleges is subject to the same WBMCC merit list — meaning there is active competition even for these lower-cutoff seats.
Management Quota (35%) is separate — lower score requirement but significantly higher fees (₹12–17 lakh/year vs ₹9–13 lakh/year for state quota).
If you score in the 400–480 range and miss state quota, Management Quota is a realistic option.
NRI Quota — West Bengal's 207 Seats Across Private Colleges
West Bengal is one of the strongest NRI quota destinations in India — combining lower NRI quota fees (relative to South Indian colleges), a culturally significant city (Kolkata), and a relatively large Bengali-origin NRI population globally. There are approximately 207 NRI quota seats across all WB private medical colleges — each college contributing 15% of its total seats.
Key Detail | Data (2025) |
Total NRI Seats in WB Private Colleges | ~207 seats across 8 private colleges |

✅ WHO SHOULD SERIOUSLY CONSIDER WB NRI QUOTA
Bengali-origin NRI families (from UK, USA, Australia, GCC) who want their child close to extended family in West Bengal.
NRI families whose child scored 160–350 in NEET and wants a recognised Indian MBBS without the South Indian distance.
NRI families comparing fees — WB NRI quota fees (USD 18,000–25,000/year) are often 20–30% lower than Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, or Deemed University NRI quota fees.
Sponsored NRI candidates — even if the student is in India, a first-degree NRI/OCI relative can sponsor them for WB NRI quota seats. This is particularly relevant for Bengali students whose parents are NRIs.
Documents Required for WB NRI Quota Admission (WBMCC)
Document | Requirement |
NEET 2026 Scorecard + Admit Card | Mandatory — must show NEET qualifying marks |
NRI Certificate from Indian Consulate/Embassy | Issued by Indian diplomatic mission in country of residence. Must be current year. |
Indian Passport (NRI holder) OR OCI Card (for OCI holders) | Valid Indian passport + proof of foreign residence (work permit, visa, PR card) OR current OCI card + foreign passport |
Student's Passport | Valid passport of the student seeking admission |
Relationship Certificate | If sponsored by first-degree NRI relative — proof of relationship (birth certificates, family documents) |
Sponsorship Affidavit | If sponsored by first-degree NRI relative — notarised affidavit from sponsor |
Class 10 + 12 Certificates and Marksheets | Standard educational documents |
Proof of Indian Origin (if via OCI) | OCI card must be linked to current foreign passport — verify before counselling |
Management Quota (MQ) — The Accessible Route for Qualifying NEET Students
Management Quota represents 35% of private college seats and is open to all Indian citizens — no WB domicile requirement. The score requirement is effectively just the NEET qualifying percentile. This makes MQ the most accessible MBBS pathway in West Bengal for students who qualify NEET but miss state quota and government seats.
College | MQ Seats (~35%) | Min NEET Score 2024 (MQ) | 2026 Expected Min Score | Annual MQ Fee (approx.) | Total 5.5yr Cost (approx.) |

ℹ️ CRITICAL MQ RULES — WHAT EVERY STUDENT MUST KNOW
MQ STILL REQUIRES NEET QUALIFYING MARKS: You cannot buy an MQ seat below the NEET qualifying percentile. For UR: minimum 145–162 marks. For OBC/SC/ST: 119–143 marks. This is a national rule under NMC regulations — no college can deviate.
MQ FEES ARE REGULATED BY WBMCC: Unlike some states where MQ fees are a free-for-all, WBMCC regulates MQ fee caps for WB private medical colleges. Verify the current year's approved fee structure at wbmcc.nic.in.
NO DOMICILE REQUIRED FOR MQ: Students from Bihar, Jharkhand, UP, or any other state can take WB private college MQ seats without WB domicile — making WB MQ a national option.
NRI vs MQ CHOICE: If you are NRI-eligible — NRI quota typically has lower fees than MQ at the same college. NRI quota should be preferred if documentation is in order.
3-Year Trend Analysis — Are WB NEET Cutoffs Rising or Falling?

📊 KEY TREND FINDINGS FROM 3-YEAR ANALYSIS
Finding 1 — STABILISATION: After a sharp upward trend from 2022 to 2024 (driven by increasing WB NEET applicants and higher national scores), 2025 data shows clear stabilisation. Most colleges' closing ranks moved by less than 1,000–2,000 AIR between 2024 and 2025. This is the most significant finding for 2026 prediction.
Finding 2 — NEWER COLLEGES ARE EASING: The three newer government colleges (Murshidabad, Raiganj, Purulia) show some easing in cutoffs as students become more familiar with them and fill them in earlier rounds. This is good news for students with 530–560 mark range.
Finding 3 — IPGMER IS RISING: IPGMER is the only top-3 Kolkata college showing consistent year-on-year upward movement. It moved from ~4,800 AIR in 2022 to ~7,598 in 2025 — a 58% increase in rank gap. This reflects IPGMER's growing reputation as SSKM Hospital's academic strength becomes better known nationally.
Finding 4 — MCK EASED IN 2025: Medical College Kolkata's closing rank improved from 6,227 (2024 R1) to 5,684 (2025) — meaning the last admitted student had a better rank (AIR 5,684 is stronger than 6,227). This likely reflects some top-ranked WB students opting for AIIMS or AIQ seats elsewhere, freeing MCK state quota seats.
WBMCC 2026 Counselling Process — Step-by-Step
Step 1: NEET 2026 Result
Step 2: MCC AIQ Registration
Step 3: WBMCC Registration
Step 4: WBMCC Round 1 Choice Filling
Step 5: WBMCC Round 1 Seat Allotment
Step 6: WBMCC Round 2 (Upgrade Round)
Step 7: Mop-Up Round
Step 8: Stray Vacancy Round
Step 9: MQ / NRI Counselling
✅ WBMCC COUNSELLING STRATEGY — DO THIS, NOT THAT
DO: Register for WBMCC and MCC simultaneously — do not wait for one result before registering for the other. Both registrations are independent.
DO: Fill maximum choice combinations in Round 1 — list all government colleges in your range (preferred to safe), then private college state quota options as fallbacks.
DO: Include newer government colleges (Murshidabad, Raiganj, Purulia) as safe options in your list — their cutoffs are lower and many students overlook them.
DO NOT: Miss the WBMCC registration deadline thinking you will get an AIQ seat — if AIQ doesn't work, you have no state quota fallback.
DO NOT: 'Float' indefinitely hoping for an upgrade — understand when locking a decent government seat is smarter than gambling for a marginally better college and ending up with nothing.
DO NOT: Ignore the mop-up round — WB's mop-up round routinely has government seats available, especially in district colleges and newer colleges.

⚠️ WHAT COULD SHIFT 2026 CUTOFFS SIGNIFICANTLY
1. NEET 2026 difficulty level: If NEET 2026 is easier than 2025, more students score high nationally — this shifts WB AIRs significantly. A 10-mark average score increase nationally can push closing AIRs by 5,000–15,000.
2. New seat additions: Any new government college announced for WB or seats added to existing colleges will ease cutoffs across the board.
3. WB applicant pool growth: WB consistently sends more students to NEET each year — upward pressure on cutoffs in the long run.
4. AIIMS Kalyani draw: Top WB students who get AIIMS Kalyani free up MCK state quota seats, easing that cutoff. Watch AIIMS 2026 results.
5. Policy changes: Any changes to domicile certificate requirements or OBC category definitions could shift patterns.

Frequently Asked Questions — NEET 2026 West Bengal Cutoff
Q1. What is the minimum NEET score to get MBBS in a West Bengal government college in 2026?
For UR/General category: approximately 585–600+ marks to have a realistic chance at any WB government medical college through state quota. For the top three Kolkata colleges (MCK, IPGMER, NRS), 620+ is the safe score. For newer district government colleges (Murshidabad, Raiganj, Purulia), 535–555 may suffice, especially in mop-up rounds. The overall WB state quota UR closing rank in 2025 was approximately AIR 95,512 — corresponding to roughly 533–540 marks.
Q2. What is the difference between OBC-A and OBC-B in West Bengal NEET counselling?
West Bengal uniquely divides OBC into two sub-categories — OBC-A and OBC-B — each with its own community list, reserved seats, and merit list. At Medical College Kolkata in 2025, OBC-A closed at AIR 11,217 and OBC-B at AIR 10,472. Your WB state-issued caste certificate will specify your sub-category. Never guess — check the exact certificate wording. Using the wrong sub-category in WBMCC registration causes allotment cancellation.
Q3. Can students from other states get seats in WB government medical colleges?
Yes — through the 15% All India Quota (AIQ) filled via MCC counselling. AIQ is open to students from any state. However, AIQ cutoffs are significantly higher — MCK's AIQ UR closing has historically been AIR 2,000–4,000 vs the state quota ~5,684–6,227. WB domicile students can apply to both AIQ (via MCC) and state quota (via WBMCC) simultaneously — always do both.
Q4. What is the AIIMS Kalyani cutoff and how do I apply?
AIIMS Kalyani (located in Nadia district, WB) is a Central Institute with completely separate counselling — it is NOT part of WBMCC or MCC regular counselling. Apply specifically through AIIMS UG counselling. The 2024 UR closing AIR for AIIMS Kalyani was approximately AIR 891 — requiring 690+ marks. This is one of the most competitive medical college cutoffs in the country. AIIMS Kalyani, Jawaharlal Institute (JIPMER), and the original AIIMS New Delhi are all in the same separate AIIMS counselling ecosystem.
Q5. With 520 marks in NEET 2026, what are my realistic WB options?
At 520 marks (approximate AIR: 85,000–1,20,000 depending on difficulty): Government colleges — newer colleges like Murshidabad or Raiganj are borderline in regular rounds, possible in mop-up/stray. For OBC-A/B, several district government colleges may be within range. For SC: multiple district government colleges are accessible. Private State Quota: strong options at KPC, IQ City, JGIMS. Management Quota: confirmed available at all WB private colleges. Strategy: file all private college state quota + newer government colleges + activate MQ as backup simultaneously.
Q6. Does West Bengal have NRI quota seats in government medical colleges?
A small number of NRI quota seats exist in WB government medical colleges — but these are very limited and managed differently from private college NRI quota. The vast majority of WB's 207 NRI seats are in private colleges. Government college NRI seats are rare and highly contested. For NRI families, private college NRI quota is the primary and more accessible WB track. Government NRI quota in WB closes at approximately AIR 4,00,000–5,00,000 (just above qualifying marks) — meaning any NRI-eligible student with a qualifying NEET score can access private college NRI seats.
Q7. What is the fee for MBBS in WB government colleges vs private colleges?
Government colleges: approximately ₹25,000–50,000 per year total (one of the lowest fees in India). This covers tuition, development, and basic hostel facilities. Private colleges — State Quota: ₹9–13 lakh/year. Private — Management Quota: ₹12–17 lakh/year. Private — NRI Quota: USD 18,000–25,000/year (₹15–21 lakh). The 15x to 20x fee difference between government and private seats is precisely why government seat cutoffs are so intense — WB students fight extremely hard to avoid paying private college fees.
Q8. How many rounds does WBMCC counselling have? Should I lock my seat in Round 1?
WBMCC conducts four rounds: Round 1, Round 2 (upgrade round), Mop-Up, and Stray Vacancy. In Round 1, you can freely upgrade or exit. From Round 2 onwards, security deposit rules apply and leaving a confirmed seat may attract penalties. Strategy: In Round 1, fill a wide range of choices from preferred to safe options. If you receive a good government college you're satisfied with, consider locking rather than over-gambling on an upgrade — Round 2 can sometimes move in unexpected directions. The stray vacancy round requires in-person attendance and failure to join results in debarment from WB MBBS counselling.
Q9. Is Management Quota in WB private colleges available for students from other states?
Yes — Management Quota (35% of private college seats) requires only NEET qualification and has no WB domicile requirement. Students from Bihar, Jharkhand, UP, Odisha, or any other state can take WB private college MQ seats. WBMCC regulates the fee structure for MQ seats. This makes WB a national option for students with qualifying NEET marks who want affordable private college MBBS compared to some other states.
Q10. Can a student retake NEET to improve their WB government college chances? What score improvement is typically needed?
Yes — NEET can be attempted any number of times (no attempt limit currently). For WB government college impact: moving from 560 to 590 (+30 marks) typically improves your AIR by approximately 30,000–50,000 ranks — which can be the difference between a newer district government college and a mid-tier Kolkata government college. Moving from 590 to 620 (+30 marks) can shift from a district college to NRS or CNMC. The 10-mark increments matter enormously in the 550–630 range for WB government seat eligibility. If you are at 545–570 range and missed all government seats in 2026, a targeted retake focusing on Biology NCERT recall (typically the biggest scoring opportunity) is worth considering.
Q11. What documents do I need for WBMCC 2026 state quota counselling?
NEET 2026 Scorecard + Admit Card; WB Domicile Certificate (Class 10/12 from WB school, or Voter ID, or Ration Card); Class 10 and Class 12 certificates and marksheets; Category certificate — SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B/EWS (must be WB state government issued, non-creamy layer for OBC, and within the current financial year for EWS); Aadhaar card; passport-size photographs; and income certificate (for EWS). Verify the exact document list in the official WBMCC 2026 notification as requirements may be updated.
Q12. How do I predict my West Bengal state rank from my NEET All India Rank?
WBMCC releases a state eligibility list with assigned State Ranks (SR numbers) after NEET results. Your WB state rank depends on how many WB domicile students scored above you in NEET — this varies each year. Approximately 10,000–14,000 WB students register for WBMCC counselling annually. Tools like MBBSCouncil app and v4edu predictor provide estimated WB state ranks based on AIR. The key insight: WB state quota competitions are limited to WB domicile students — so a national AIR of 80,000 may translate to a WB state rank of 8,000–12,000, making district government college seats realistic.
